Australian regulator calls for new competition laws for digital platforms

IndiaTimes Monday, 27 November 2023
Australia's competition watchdog, the ACCC, has called for new competition laws in response to the expansion of digital platforms like Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft in the country. The ACCC raised concerns about invasive data collection and practices that limit customer choice. The proposed reforms include targeted consumer protections, service-specific codes, and obligations to address scams, harmful apps, and fake reviews. The ACCC also highlighted the need to address challenges posed by emerging technologies like generative AI and virtual reality.
