Covid body bags scam: EOW files FIR against former Mumbai mayor, 2nd IAS officer

The Mumbai police EOW on Saturday registered an FIR against former mayor Kishori Pednekar, principal secretary rank IAS officer P Velrasu, who had handled all Covid procurement through the central purchase department (CPD), and a private contractor for alleged irregularities in purchase of body bags for Covid victims, thus favouring a particular vendor. This is the first FIR by EOW into spending of money by the BMC during the pandemic. Earlier, in the Covid scam, the ED had booked another IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal.
