Manipur govt proposes district-level SITs to probe violence cases, state DGP appears in Supreme Court

The Manipur government has proposed to constitute six SITs comprising senior police officials, particularly a women-only police officers' SIT for crimes against women. The SP-led SITs will investigate ethnic clashes/offences, and the state DGP and DIG will oversee these investigations. Additionally, 11 FIRs relating to serious crimes against women, including the parading of naked women and their sexual assault, will be investigated by the CBI. The Supreme Court had summoned the DGP to answer queries on ethnic violence and steps taken by the administration for effective investigation.
