Barring stray incidents, Bengaluru bandh largely peaceful; 771 detained & let off later

Tuesday's bandh in Bengaluru, called to protest the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, was largely peaceful. Some incidents of protesters vandalizing commercial establishments were reported. Police detained protesters who tried to take out marches and detained around 771 protesters. Most business establishments and offices remained closed. Vehicles with Tamil Nadu registration were halted at checkposts. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar thanked the citizens for their peaceful support. Normal life in the city was not significantly affected as public transport remained operational.
