40 kids under age of 1 die every day in Maharashtra

Approximately 40 infants under the age of one are dying every day in Maharashtra, India, with two-thirds of these deaths occurring within the first month of life. Prematurity, low birth weight, and respiratory distress are the leading causes of neonatal death. Lack of maternal nutrition and late referrals to hospitals are contributing factors to the high mortality rate. The rise in hospital deliveries without a corresponding increase in healthcare infrastructure and workforce is also a significant factor.
