Bengal: Man without gallbladder taken for gallstone operation, doctor removes his appendix

IndiaTimes Friday, 6 October 2023
A constable with West Bengal Police underwent an unnecessary appendix removal surgery after a diagnostic center wrongly reported that he had a gallstone. The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission has ordered the diagnostic center to pay for all the patient's tests. The patient had initially received a report stating he had a gallbladder stone, but a second report mentioned a "contracted" gallbladder. It was later discovered that the patient had a congenital absence of a gallbladder. The commission has advised the patient to file a complaint against the surgeon and radiologists involved.
