Guwahati resembles Venice as 168mm of rain in 48 hrs batters gateway to northeast

IndiaTimes Friday, 6 October 2023
The city of Guwahati in northeast India has been hit by urban floods caused by continuous rainfall for the past 48 hours. This has led to the closure of several schools and disruption of normal life. The heavy rainfall has also affected police stations, making it difficult for personnel to work. The Meteorological Department has predicted more rainfall in the coming days. The urban affairs minister has assured that efforts are being made to address the situation and provide relief to the affected citizens. Some residents have called for better utilization of funds for drainage systems rather than unnecessary infrastructure projects.
