Thursday, 9 November 2023 Prime Minister Modi is expected to announce the sub-categorization of scheduled castes (SC) in a public meeting in Hyderabad. This move is aimed at gaining the support of the Madigas, who make up 60% of the SC population in Telangana. The sub-categorization is being demanded by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) for almost three decades. The support of the Madigas could be crucial in deciding the outcome of the assembly elections.
