Mumbai: Diwali quieter, AQI 'moderate' after HC order & BMC appeals

IndiaTimes Monday, 13 November 2023
Diwali celebrations in Mumbai were quieter this year, with fewer fireworks and lower pollution levels reported. Many residents chose to celebrate in their hometowns or travel to tourist destinations, resulting in fewer fireworks in neighborhoods. Housing societies and social workers had advised against bursting firecrackers due to pollution concerns. While noise levels were generally lower, excessive use of firecrackers was reported in some areas of Thane and Navi Mumbai, leading to increased pollution levels. Mumbai recorded a moderate air quality index, with some suburbs showing higher readings.
