Supreme Court asks Centre to consider reconstitution of delimitation commission for Limbu and Tamang tribals
The Supreme Court has urged the Indian government to consider the proportional representation of the Limbu and Tamang tribal communities in Sikkim and West Bengal. The court highlighted the constitutional foundation of the communities' demand for representation and emphasized the injustice of their lack of political representation since 2012. The court rejected the government's argument that the delimitation commission could not be constituted until the 2026 census, stating that this would further delay the communities' access to reservation rights.
