Justice Fathima Beevi, first woman judge in SC, dies

Justice Fathima Beevi, the first woman judge in the Supreme Court, passed away at a private hospital in Kollam. She was 96. She was born in Pathanamthitta on April 30, 1927, and had an illustrious career as a lawyer and judge. Beevi served as a high court judge and was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1989, becoming the first woman judge in Asia to hold such a position. Her tenure as Tamil Nadu governor was marred by controversies, including her invitation to J Jayalalithaa to form the government.
