BRS won most seats where it replaced its sitting MLAs
Tuesday, 5 December 2023
The BRS party's strategy to give tickets to sitting MLAs backfired in the 2023 assembly election results. Clear indications of strong resentment against nearly 30 MLAs were ignored as the party renominated them for a third term. However, where the party denied tickets to its MLAs, new candidates emerged victorious. Surveys had warned about opposition to some sitting BRS MLAs, but the party did not consider changing candidates. The party could have improved its tally of 39 seats if it had replaced the MLAs facing public ire.
