RJD vice-president Shivanand Tiwary gets 1 year in jail in defamation case; granted bail
Tuesday, 5 December 2023 RJD vice president Shivanand Tiwary has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs one lakh by a Patna court in a criminal defamation suit filed by Bihar minister Sanjay Kumar Jha. Tiwary, a former state minister, was granted provisional bail and has 30 days to appeal. Jha filed the suit in 2018, objecting to Tiwary's comments about his relationship with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Tiwary, a veteran socialist leader, has known both Kumar and Lalu Prasad for nearly five decades.
During an election rally in Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut, now a BJP candidate, inadvertently mixed up Tejashwi Yadav with BJP MP Tejasvi Surya while criticising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader for "eating fish". However, it was Yadav who had previously faced criticism for a video showing him consuming fish during Navratri. The rally, held in Mandi, highlighted Ranaut's political foray in the Lok Sabha seat. In her address, she not only attacked Yadav but also accused Surya of "hooliganism" and referenced his alleged fish-eating habits.
