Push for expensive opioids worries palliative care experts

Palliative care associations and experts worldwide have raised concerns about the subsidies and promotions of expensive opioids in low- and middle-income countries like India. The availability of sustained release morphine and fentanyl patches is increasing, while immediate-release oral morphine remains inaccessible. Pallium India procures immediate-release oral morphine for free supply to patients at a cost of less than 10 rupees a day. The updated morphine manifesto calls for governments to ensure safe access to immediate-release oral morphine for patients in need.
