For 4th year, MP tops in abandoning newborns

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 6 December 2023
Madhya Pradesh continues to have the highest number of abandoned newborns in the country. In 2022, 175 newborns were found dumped in the state, accounting for 21% of the total cases in India. Despite an increase in the number of creches, the abandonment of newborns rose. Over the past four years, Madhya Pradesh has seen 707 cases of infant abandonment. The state government has taken action by building creches, but awareness about their locations needs to improve. More than 1,512 infants have been dumped in Madhya Pradesh in the past decade, with many not surviving the night.
