Kerala doctor's death: Dr Shahana's suicide note says 'everyone seemed focused on money'

IndiaTimes Friday, 8 December 2023
Dr EA Ruwise, a junior resident doctor at the government medical college in Thiruvananthapuram, has been taken into custody in relation to the tragic death of his former fiancée, Dr Shahana. The lifeless body of Shahana was found in her apartment, and there are suspicions that she might have taken her own life due to challenges in their marriage arrangements arising from unjustifiable dowry requests. Shahana's suicide note expressed her despair, questioning why Ruwise demanded more dowry and speculated if it was for his sister. The police must probe the case sincerely and thoroughly, and mass awareness campaigns against the practice of dowry are urgently needed.
