Centre imposes limit on wheat stockholding

IndiaTimes Friday, 8 December 2023
The central government has imposed stock limits on wheat for traders, retailers, and processors in all states and Union Territories. This intervention is necessary to manage food security and prevent hoarding. The removal of licencing requirements, stock limits, and movement restrictions on specified foodstuffs was issued on June 12, 2023. Wheat stocking entities must register on the wheat stock limit portal and update stock positions weekly. Entities found in violation will face punitive action. The government has also taken steps to increase supplies in the open market through the sale of wheat at affordable prices.
