September 30 deadline offers EC a breather from logistical challenge of simultaneous polls

IndiaTimes Monday, 11 December 2023
The Supreme Court's direction to the Election Commission to hold assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, 2024, has cleared the way for the poll panel to speed up its act. Legal experts said with the apex court validating the temporary nature of Article 370 and its nullification, as well as the delimitation process in J&K, the EC is now saved from legal challenges. The EC could not have conducted polls in J&K till now as amendments were needed in the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act.
