Bombay high court trashes EC’s explanation on not holding Pune bypoll
The Bombay High Court criticized the Election Commission of India's decision to not hold a by-election for the Pune Lok Sabha constituency. The court questioned the Commission's reasoning that it was busy with other polls, including preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The court compared the situation in Pune to places like Manipur, where physical unrest could prevent elections. Pune resident Sughosh Joshi filed a plea against the Commission's decision, arguing that other constituencies had held by-elections after vacancies. The court requested more information and set a hearing date for December 13.
