Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urges senior railway officials to shun colonial mindset and working styles, focusing on better performance. The railways must scale up cargo transportation to reduce reliance on imported crude and logistics costs. Progress in the railway sector demonstrates its potential to achieve higher targets. Development of infrastructure and systems for passenger and cargo movement relieves burden on roads, environment, and public exchequer. Gati Shakti directorate forecasts 3,000 MTs additional cargo by 2031, with potential savings of 16,000 crore litres of diesel and Rs 1.28 lakh crore annually.
