Report sought from 10 states on why SC status not granted to subcastes among rehabilitated Bengalis

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 19 December 2023
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has issued notices to 10 states seeking a report on why scheduled caste status has not been granted to Namasudra, Paundra, and Rajvanshi sub-castes among rehabilitated Bengalis who came from East Pakistan in 1947. The NCSC Chairman (in-charge) Arun Haldar has started an investigation and sought a report. The Uttar Pradesh government has passed a bill to grant them SC status, pending with the central government. The Nikhil Bharat Bengali Samanway Samiti, led by Dr Subodh Biswas, has been raising concerns for over two decades.
