West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee downplayed the mimicry incident involving Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, stating that it was not meant to be disrespectful. She mentioned that if Rahul Gandhi hadn't recorded it, no one would have known about it. Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee, who mimicked Dhankhar, stated that he had no intention to hurt or disrespect him, but did not offer an apology. The incident led to Kalyan Banerjee being dropped from the list of leaders accompanying Mamata Banerjee to meet PM Modi.
