Delhi tone changed post US expose: Canadian PM Trudeau
Wednesday, 20 December 2023 Canadian PM Justin Trudeau said he senses a change in India's tone with Ottawa after the United States warned New Delhi about its involvement in a thwarted plot to kill a Sikh separatist leader on US soil, the CBC reported on Wednesday. "I think there is a beginning of an understanding that they can't bluster their way through this and there is an openness to collaborating in a way that perhaps they were less open before," Trudeau said in the interview.
Canada's intelligence agency revealed Chinese government interference in the 2019 and 2021 elections, aiming to support certain candidates. The interference, reported to the Prime Minister's Office, implicated multiple parties and targeted specific individuals. Despite concerns raised, the Foreign Interference Task Force concluded it didn't impact election outcomes. Prime Minister Trudeau and officials were briefed multiple times on foreign influence threats.
