Saturday, 23 December 2023
The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2023 will decriminalize minor green offences, including those related to air pollution, from April 1 next year. The Indian Forest Act, 1927 has already implemented decriminalization provisions from November 15. The Act removes imprisonment and fine for pasturing cattle in forest land, instead imposing only a fine of Rs 500. The Act also increases fines for non-compliance of select green laws. The provisions under the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and Environment Protection Act, 1986 will be effective from April 1, 2024.
