Ulfa faction to sign accord with Assam, govt today
Thursday, 28 December 2023 A tripartite memorandum of settlement will be signed by the pro-talks faction of Ulfa, the Centre, and Assam government. The accord will mark another milestone in the Modi government's efforts to establish peace in the northeast. Ulfa commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah, who declined to be part of the negotiations, is based near the China-Myanmar border. The settlement aims to address Ulfa's concerns and safeguard the interests of indigenous communities, while Ulfa leaders and cadres are expected to join the mainstream and give up violence.
