IT professional loses Rs 6.7 lakh to caller posing as brother with voice modulator

A caller used an online voice modulator to pose as the brother of an IT professional and trick her into transferring Rs6.7 lakh for her ailing mother's treatment. The caller contacted her through an instant messaging service, pretending to be her brother and claiming that their mother was admitted to a hospital in Bilaspur. The victim transferred Rs1 lakh to the caller's bank account, but the caller asked for more money. She borrowed Rs5.7 lakh and transferred it to the caller's account. The police have frozen the caller's bank accounts and are investigating the case.
