The military focused on expanding its military engagement with like-minded countries in response to China's attempts to become a regional hegemon. The Indian troops maintained an assertive approach in the border standoff with China in eastern Ladakh. The Defence Acquisition Council approved big-ticket acquisition projects, including the procurement of Tejas light combat aircraft and Prachand combat helicopters.
