'Canadian politics have given space to Khalistani forces': Foreign minister Jaishankar
Tuesday, 2 January 2024 EAM Jaishankar expressed concern over the impact of Khalistani forces and their activities on the India-Canada bilateral relationship. He stated that Canadian politics have given these forces space to operate, which is detrimental to both countries. The G20 summit in New Delhi is unrelated to the Khalistan issue in Canada. The strained diplomatic relations between India and Canada are due to the pro-Khalistan lobby threatening Indian diplomats. The allegations made by Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau linking India to a Sikh activist's death were vehemently denied by India.
Russia dismissed US accusations against India in the foiled assassination attempt of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, criticizing Washington's lack of credible evidence and accusing it of disrespecting India. Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, condemned the US's "neo-colonial mentality" and suggested it reflected a misunderstanding of India's national character. The allegations were seen as an attempt to interfere in India's internal affairs amidst ongoing elections.
