SC designates 56 advocates as senior advocates including 11 women
Friday, 19 January 2024 The designations were made after a committee headed by Chief Justice of IndiaDY Chandrachud interviewed over 200 applicants for senior advocates. Advocates Shobha Gupta, Mohd Shoeb Alam, Sunil Fernandes, Gaurav Aggarwal, Amit Anand Tiwari, Swarupama Chaturvedi, Ardhendumauli Kumar Prasad, Gagan Gupta, Dr Joseph Aristotle S, and Karuna Nundy are among the lawyers, who have been designated as senior advocates.

After approximately 600 lawyers sent a letter to the Chief Justice of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at the Congress party on Thursday. "Using intimidation tactics is typical of Congress culture. Five decades ago, they advocated for a 'committed judiciary' – they shamelessly demand commitment from others for their own selfish interests but refuse to commit to the nation," the PM stated in a post on X. "It's no surprise that 1.4 billion Indians are turning away from them," he concluded.
