Sunday, 28 January 2024 China is reportedly set to appoint senior diplomat Xu Feihong as its new ambassador to India after a 15-month gap. The delay in the appointment coincides with strained Sino-Indian relations due to border issues, particularly the unresolved disengagement in eastern Ladakh. The previous ambassador left in October 2022, and while the formalities for Xu Feihong's appointment are ongoing, the timing and impact on bilateral relations remain uncertain.
On May 20, votes from 49 constituencies spread across six states and two Union territories will determine the fate of 695 candidates, including a number of well-known ministers and MPs. Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Jammu & Kashmir will vote.
