Odisha minor tried as adult, gets 20 yrs jail

After trying the 17-year-old boy as an adult under the modified Juvenile Justice Act of 2015 for the alleged rape and murder of a five-year-old in the Nayagarh district in 2020, an Odisha children's court on Tuesday sentenced him to 20 years in prison. The 2015 amendment gives juvenile justice boards the authority to handle adolescents who are charged with serious crimes as adults.
