Efforts on to 'undermine judiciary', say ex-judges, seek CJI intervention
Monday, 15 April 2024 () Retired and ex-judges caution against escalating attempts to influence the judiciary through public disparagement and misinformation, stressing the importance of upholding fairness, impartiality, and judicial independence to preserve democracy and rule of law.
After approximately 600 lawyers sent a letter to the Chief Justice of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at the Congress party on Thursday. "Using intimidation tactics is typical of Congress culture. Five decades ago, they advocated for a 'committed judiciary' – they shamelessly demand commitment from others for their own selfish interests but refuse to commit to the nation," the PM stated in a post on X. "It's no surprise that 1.4 billion Indians are turning away from them," he concluded.
