China slowdown means it may never overtake US economy, forecast shows

China's economy is unlikely to surpass that of the US soon, and may never consistently claim the top spot, according to Bloomberg Economics. The research forecasts that China's GDP will exceed that of the US in the mid-2040s, but by only a small margin before falling back behind. The slowing growth is attributed to a deepening property slump and fading confidence in Beijing's management of the economy.
