Warranty & guarantee period of white goods should start from date of installation, govt advisory to sellers

The Indian consumer affairs ministry has advised manufacturers and sellers of white goods, such as TVs and refrigerators, to revise their warranty policies so that the warranty period starts from the date of installation, rather than the date of purchase. The ministry issued the advisory due to delays in delivery and installation, particularly when goods are purchased through e-commerce platforms. The ministry stated that starting the warranty period when consumers are unable to use the product constitutes an unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act.
