Europe’s wine, spirit cos eye zero duty imports
Sunday, 10 December 2023
European wine and spirit makers, including those producing Polish Vodka, Champagne, and Irish Whiskey, are advocating for zero duty imports in the proposed free trade agreement with India. They are seeking a significant reduction in duties in the first year, with the hope of phasing them out over five years. The European Union (EU) is also seeking an agreement on geographical indications (GIs) to benefit its producers. However, a sharp reduction in duties is seen as detrimental to the domestic industry.
