Sri Lanka's government has approved plans to build the country's largest solar energy plant, a 700-megawatt facility in the Kilinochchi district, to address the power crisis caused by blackouts last year. The project, which will be financed by $1.7 billion in foreign direct investment, will be undertaken by Australia's United Solar Energy. In addition, India's Adani Group has received approval for a $442 million investment to construct a 350-megawatt wind power plant in the same district. These renewable energy initiatives aim to diversify Sri Lanka's grid and improve its energy security.
