Lufthansa, the German flagship carrier, has placed an order with Boeing and Airbus for 80 planes worth $9 billion. The order includes 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes, 40 Airbus A220-300s, and options for future purchases. This marks Lufthansa's first purchase of Boeing narrow body planes in 30 years and their first acquisition of the 737 MAX model. The airline has previously focused on an all-Airbus fleet but continues to buy Boeing wide body aircraft. Lufthansa's order also boosts the A220 program, which has faced engine problems in the past.
