New telecom law in place, to help curb cyberattacks

IndiaTimes Monday, 25 December 2023
India has enacted a new telecom law, replacing the outdated Indian Telegraph Act of 1885. The law aims to enhance security for the country's mobile networks, protecting them from cyberattacks and illegal break-ins. It also introduces penalties for unsolicited messaging and allows the government to take control of telecom networks during emergencies. The law further includes provisions for allocating spectrum to satellite communication companies and imposes a maximum penalty of Rs 5 crore on operators.
