Bitcoin topped $45,000 for first time in nearly two years
Tuesday, 2 January 2024 Bitcoin surged past $45,000, driven by anticipation of an approval for an exchange-traded fund (ETF) and an upcoming halving event. The cryptocurrency rose 5.2% to its highest level since April 2022, reaching $45,443. Traders are buying Bitcoin ahead of the January 10 deadline for the US Securities and Exchange Commission to approve a spot ETF. Options traders are optimistic, betting on Bitcoin hitting $50,000. Despite the bullish sentiment, a major correction is unlikely given the halving event scheduled for April.
