Billionaire quant investing pioneer and philanthropist James Simons dies at 86

The Simons Foundation announced on Friday the passing of billionaire investor James Simons at the age of 86. Simons, a mathematician and Cold War code-breaker, was the founder of Renaissance Technologies, one of the world's leading and most lucrative hedge funds. The foundation did not disclose the cause of his death.
