China’s growth slows to 4.7% as weak retail sales drag economy

China’s economic growth slowed to its worst pace in five quarters as retail sales declined, increasing pressure on Beijing to restore confidence at a key policy meeting. The gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 4.7% in the second quarter compared to the previous year, missing the median estimate of 5.1%. The growth for the first half of the year was 5%, in line with Beijing's annual target of around 5%.
