NBC's Jacob Soboroff finds the burnt-out home where he grew up, as wildfire stories turn personal

SeattlePI.com Friday, 10 January 2025 ()
The rows of burnt-out homes were shocking enough, until NBC News' Jacob Soboroff came upon the Pacific Palisades house where he had grown up. Only the remnants of a chimney and brick wall remained. Soboroff took out his phone and FaceTimed his mother to show what the California wildfires had done to the home where he had lived until age 10. The Los Angeles-based Soboroff's story became a prominent part of his reporting from the disaster's scene. Other journalists have been working to show what is going on while they, too, were personally affected. As he drove through streets of destroyed homes, Soboroff said it was what he imagined the aftermath of an earthquake would be, not a fire.
