Sunday, 2 February 2025 () British Prime Minister Keir Starmer say he will seek a strong trade relationship with the U.S. after President Donald Trump suggested he would slap Europe with tariffs after hitting America’s biggest trading partners with import taxes. Starmer spoke while hosting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at his country estate as he’s about to embark on a mission to improve relations with the European Union. Starmer says talks so far with Trump have focused on trade. Trump's tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China have sparked fears of a global trade war. Starmer is hoping for a relationship reset Monday while meeting European Union chiefs.
