Abhishek Chaubey on response to 'Udta Punjab'
Friday, 5 January 2024
Director Abhishek Chaubey believes that if faced with a censorship controversy similar to 'Udta Punjab' today, he might not receive the same support from the Bollywood industry. The film, which addressed the issue of drug abuse in Punjab, faced heavy censorship in 2016. At that time, producer Anurag Kashyap and other influential figures in the industry supported Chaubey. However, Chaubey now feels that circumstances have changed and those in power are smarter and have more influence, making it tougher for filmmakers to stand up against them. In dealing with such challenges, Chaubey suggests finding ways around the system, as done in China and Iran. Additionally, Chaubey is preparing for his new dark comedy series, 'Killer Soup', which stars Konkona Sensharma and Manoj Bajpayee.
