Jabra Fan case: SC rules in favor of YRF
Monday, 22 April 2024
Yash Raj Films has secured a victory as the Supreme Court of India overturned a previous ruling by the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission regarding the exclusion of the song ‘Jabra Fan’ from the film 'Fan,' starring Shah Rukh Khan. The Commission's 2021 order had directed YRF to compensate a moviegoer with Rs 10,000 for feeling misled by the song's absence in the film. The recent Supreme Court ruling favored YRF in the legal battle over the song's inclusion in the movie. The complaint was lodged by Afreen Fatima Zaidi, who argued that the exclusion of ‘Jabra Fan’ left her and her children disappointed after its promotion in trailers, leading to health concerns for her children. Initially, the NCDRC supported Zaidi's stance, categorizing the promotional strategy as an unjust trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act.
