All you need to know about Françoise Hardy
Wednesday, 12 June 2024
At 80, Françoise Hardy, the revered French singer, actress, and model, known for her timeless music and beauty, has passed away. Her son, Thomas Dutronc, announced her demise on June 11 via Instagram, writing "Maman est partie" (Mom is gone). Hardy fought lymphatic and laryngeal cancer since her 2004 diagnosis, her health gradually declining. In 1962, she rose to fame with 'Tous les garçons et les filles', followed by another French No. 1 hit, 'C’est à l’amour auquel je pense', the next year. Embracing the ye-ye trend in the '60s, Hardy amassed nearly a dozen Top 10 singles in France and secured nine Top 10 albums, remaining one of France's top-selling musicians. While her music resonated globally, Hardy found particular success in Belgium, Germany, and Canada. Although she achieved moderate success in the UK, Rolling Stone ranked her No. 162 in their 2023 list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. Hardy's legacy extends beyond music, encompassing writing and modeling, leaving an indelible mark on the arts.
