Govinda was initially considered for the film directed by David Dhawan. However, the role eventually went to Salman Khan after Govinda declined the project reportedly due to reservations about working with Sushmita Sen. David Dhawan originally wanted Govinda to play the role of a husband who cheats in the movie. Govinda agreed to do the film but didn't want to work alongside Sushmita Sen
