Kranti controversy: Salman defends Salim-Javed's legacy

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 13 August 2024 ()
Salman Khan has fiercely responded to recent claims by veteran actor-director Manoj Kumar, who asserted that he was responsible for writing the film Kranti. During the trailer launch of Angry Young Men, Farhan Akhtar mentioned that his favorite film written by Javed Akhtar was Kranti. Salman, present at the event, quickly interjected, revealing that Manoj Kumar had claimed authorship of the film. Salman added, “Manoj Kumar would say, 'main inko batata hoon aur yeh dono agle din wahi likh kar laate hai'” (“Manoj Kumar would say, 'I’ll tell them the story, and they’ll bring it back the next day written exactly as I narrated.'”). Released in 1981, Kranti featured an ensemble cast including Dilip Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, and Hema Malini, with Salim-Javed credited for the story and screenplay, and Manoj Kumar for dialogues. Salman’s remarks have intensified the debate over who rightfully deserves credit for the film’s writing.
