The Academy apologizes to director Hamdan Ballal

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences apologized for not specifically acknowledging director Hamdan Ballal after his assault by Israeli settlers in the West Bank. The Academy originally issued a general statement condemning harm to artists, which was seen as inadequate. More than 600 academy members, including prominent actors, demanded a direct apology.
