More than 146,000 lives saved and counting: RNLI marks 200th anniversary
Monday, 4 March 2024 On a Sunday morning in the seaside town of Whitby, North Yorkshire, a group of volunteers gather at the lifeboat station. The team are from a range of backgrounds, ages and walks of life, but they all share one common aim. In their spare time, they help to save lives.
After a doctor confronts Rishi Sunak on arrival, the prime minister receives a mainly warm welcome from punters at a village fete in his constituency. At the fete in Great Ayton, a North Yorkshire village in Richmond constituency, Mr Sunak meets stall holders, chats with members of the public and plays a game of ‘splat the rat’. As the prime minister leaves the sunny gathering, a cheeky young boy shouts “hey Rishi, vote Reform UK”. Report by Blairm.
